An Enviable Contest – The Greek Erotic Poetry of Rufinus
Evocative erotic poetry courtesy of the 2nd century poet, Rufinus. Originally written in Greek, probably from the early Byzantine era.
Rhodope, Melite and Rhodoklea contested
to see who possessed
the finest quim.
I was the judge
and like those three famous seraphs
they stood naked
damp with wine
between Rodope’s thighs
gleamed the one eye
like a rosepatch cut
by a foaming stream
and Melite’s like watered silk
between frills folded
an aching dark
while Rhodoklea’s
was like clear glass
its wet surface
like a newly-minted temple carving
but I knew what Paris suffered
for his choosing
so I at once did the honors
to all three angels
